The Missions: San Francisco and San José

Unless the mission is oriented by charity, that is, unless it springs from a profound act of divine love, it risks being reduced to mere philanthropic and social activity...Consequently, being missionaries means loving God with all one's heart, even to the point, if necessary, of dying for him. - Pope Benedict XVI

still not done packing. it's an ineluctable fact that i will be up late and up early. however, i realize that whatever happens with the material possessions crammed into my room, i will, if God Wills it, be in santo domingo in exactly 24 hours...

i'm happy to announce that the cynic committee has now been formed: fr violette and fr hamill will have complete editorial blogging privileges.

i just got the itrip from the guys at griffin. this thing is amazing. i can set the ipod to any station on the dial and it becomes a solid little radio station - just dial the radio the correct frequency and 600 songs are at your fingertips...sound quality is excellent.

now i won't be stuck listening to merengue all the time.

well, time to pack.

posting from the sat phone

okay, i am now in possession of two enormous duffles - which means i can pack the kitchen sink, which is nice, because i will at least have a sink. no water, but a sink...

that's it, i need another bag. i can't believe how much space all this little crap takes up. i'm seriously considering going down with nothing...

i was thinking about today's psalm - God hears the cry of the poor. perfect.

however, what about the rich?

do they not cry? or does God not hear them?

here is a great picture of bob

it's tuesday night and i haven't started packing. oh well.
