The Missions: San Francisco and San José

Unless the mission is oriented by charity, that is, unless it springs from a profound act of divine love, it risks being reduced to mere philanthropic and social activity...Consequently, being missionaries means loving God with all one's heart, even to the point, if necessary, of dying for him. - Pope Benedict XVI

major internet problems here in banica. i think the transmitter has been half-fried by something, leaving us with intermittent service.

the good news is that we broke ground on the new school building today!!!! pictures to follow...

life abounds!!!!

8 big fat piglets. i'll be taking some pics tomorrow and posting them.

pray for this country: the people are quite shaken by the deaths in jimani - percentage wise, it would be about 20,000 americans.

otherwise, things are great, it's good to be back where God has sent me.

fresh look on the blog!!!

thanks for all the prayers - i had a great retreat and am 20 hours from departure - i need to get back home and evaluate the damage due to the floods: as far as i can tell from reports that i have received, the local banica area has not suffered from flooding, but so other areas about 45 minutes away have, so i'll have a full report in a couple of days, well, at least i hope i will, as i have received a missive lamenting the lack of internet at a parish...

well folks it's been a busy 3.5 months and it's time for this parish priest to go on retreat. so, because of the potential trouble due to the elections which will be held tomorrow, i have to go into the capital a day early, spend the night, and then head off to pray. i'll be gone for about 10 days, so keep me in your prayers as you will be in mine.

just a quick update on things around here:

my pig is ready to pop. the talk is 10-12 piglets. we'll see...

i have 4 little chickens - two of which are egg layers! they should begin laying within a month or so.

my turkeys continue to enjoy life, but they haven't layed any eggs yet.

should be new priest down here sometime this summer.

we have collected over 37,000 for the school - we just need 13 more! thanks to all those who have donated and helped out.

the official "Christendom College Summer School Program" begins in a couple of weeks, with 10 students coming down to take spanish and theology class...

that's it for now - God bless

well, things have been busy. one of the pigs gave birth to 7 piglets. the other is due any day now.

the rain has begun in earnest, which is a delight as the land has gone from brown to green.

here is our good friend michelina again; we caught her in the middle of a hair job:

did you know that the jalapeno chili is really only properly reffered to as jalapeno when it has been cut and canned? otherwise it is known as huachinango, unless, of course, it has been dried, in which case it's a chipotle...the things you learn on saturday afternoons...
