good news - fr christopher murphy now has semi-editorial privileges to post on the web site. he might post more often than i do, but who knows what's gonna happen...
what happens when someone ties a poor knot and the line on the flag pole slips out? well, someone has to shimmy up the thing and replace it:

all went well, except for the massive downpour that left my mule and i utterly soaked and cold.

yesterday, at the diaconate ordination in san juan, the bishop comes up to me and we begin chatting about his anual pastoral visit, which begins today. he diplomatically and yet episcopally proceeds to realign the carefully crafted schedule we had prepared. near the end he tells me that he needs me to send a driver on sunday afternoon to pick him up. i agree and we end the discussion.
so, upon my return to banica i inform one of our drivers that he needs to find a way into san juan and remain at the bishop's house until the bishop arrives and then drive the bishop out here in the bishop's vehicle.
then, about 8pm, one of our trusty employees comes to my office, where fr murphy and i were following the skins-bucs game, and tells me that the bishop just got on the radio (94.1 fm, radio corozones) and announced to the entire listening area, "anyone that hears this and knows the pastor in banica, tell him that i don't need him to send in a driver." how's that for solid third world telephoneless communication?
in any event, i suspect the bishop will show up this afternoon. i'm off to the mountains with him and will be, God Willing, back here on wednesday afternoon.
