The Missions: San Francisco and San José

Unless the mission is oriented by charity, that is, unless it springs from a profound act of divine love, it risks being reduced to mere philanthropic and social activity...Consequently, being missionaries means loving God with all one's heart, even to the point, if necessary, of dying for him. - Pope Benedict XVI

when is it all going to end? just another day of 85 degrees and sunny, ride on the motor with breathtaking views of valleys, rivers, and mountains, a couple of daily Masses in the campos with singing and totally happy people, perhaps a dip in the crystal clear, refreshingly cool rio joca, returning to the parish for a nice late lunch, perhaps some basketball in the afternoon, a nice cold beer and a game of cards at night - i don't know how much more of this i can take.

in more mundane matters, i just want to comment that for all of you who have mocked me for the copious amounts of arm and leg hair that cover me, it is the perfect shield for those little mosquitos, because they cannot bore through it all to attack me...God is clever.
