The Missions: San Francisco and San José

Unless the mission is oriented by charity, that is, unless it springs from a profound act of divine love, it risks being reduced to mere philanthropic and social activity...Consequently, being missionaries means loving God with all one's heart, even to the point, if necessary, of dying for him. - Pope Benedict XVI

good news and bad news - first the good news: the staff here at blog central joyously announces "radio free banica", the new commenting system. the one new feature, other than stability, is that you can now comment on others' comments. the bad news: all the old comments have passed on to the great digital graveyard. i guess i could resurrect them, but it would be a massive undertaking. so, if you have written anything you want people to read, please re-post. sorry about that.

continuing in the mundane, a decision has been reached on the pigs - the male will be used for a Christmas feast, and we plan on mating the female since she will give birth to 5-12 piglets which we can then raise. the whole town is excited to see, hear, and smell 12 piglets in the side yard of the rectory...a dog just went after the pigs, but the pigs won the battle - they sure can squeal when they get mad...
