The Missions: San Francisco and San José

Unless the mission is oriented by charity, that is, unless it springs from a profound act of divine love, it risks being reduced to mere philanthropic and social activity...Consequently, being missionaries means loving God with all one's heart, even to the point, if necessary, of dying for him. - Pope Benedict XVI

update to the audio blog: as i was coming home i had to run through this enormous puddle, and the bike conked out on me. i waited a minute and kick started her. another huge puddle, same thing happens, i kick start the bike, but instead of starting, the kick starter snaps off the bike. so there i am, on a dead flat stretch of road, pushing the bike in the blazing sun with a backpack on. after 30 minutes this guy drives by on a moped, tells me to hop on my bike, puts his foot on my rear peg, gets us moving, and i jumped started nicely and made my way home. it had to happen eventually...
